Jette Ives - In The Deep (album)

Just in time for the January detox and the cold days indoors, Jette Ives debut record wraps itself around the listener in a comforting and familiar manner.

The duo of Jette Kelly with her embracing and whispery vocals and Holmes Ives who sets the backing beats and music combine to conjure up an album not heard since Portishead went missing in action. Theres something unmistakeably French to the style and delivery of the music, with an underlying jazz cool to soothe listener along to prevent dullness creeping in.

As the album progresses the beats step up, without every becoming too racey and over time, the quality remains but its impact diminishes. It’s a quality album but destined to become no more than backing music or incidental filler. There are worse fates that could befall a record but there are more aspirational dreams as well.

3/5
